I came across this unique idea, while I was thinking about creating something new with Shramm during this time of emergency since we had planned to be rehearsing for our upcoming shows for our new record but we were stopped by the pandemic.
The title: intermission, reflects the exact feeling I had inside – a break, a division between our music and between ourselves.
Focusing on the topic I decided to create a short film, where dance and music help us to connect on an imaginary bridge, breaking the limitations of space. That’s why we chose our song Rainbows, taken from our EP “Komponent”, intended to be that bridge.
XiaoYi Liu through her dance, becomes the rainbow, connecting us, moving between the rooms we’re in, until, through her movement, we all appear to share the same physical space. This short film contains multiple meanings, a connection between the three of us, a connection between three different countries (Italy, Germany, and France), and also a deeper thought: Xiao, by doubling or tripling herself, symbolizes the possibility for us, during this time of self-isolation, to connect with the multitude inner parts within ourselves.
Art should connect us, helping our minds to travel far away, further than our bodies, transforming the finite into something infinite. Overcoming borders.
We don’t know how long this pandemic will keep affecting the music industry and global society, so to create beauty, to create art is and will be, more and more, a way to connect people, helping each of us feel less lonely and vulnerable.
